Operation Read Memphis

EnRICH Academy is a program that provides literacy support to middle school students. All lessons are aligned with Tennessee standards, including those seen on standardized tests, to ensure that students are prepared for academic success.

What sets EnRICH Academy apart is its focus on using literature that highlights often untold black and brown stories. This approach not only exposes students to diverse perspectives but also encourages them to think critically about issues of race, identity, and social justice.

In addition to traditional literacy instruction, EnRICH Academy incorporates creativity in the arts to bring stories alive in unique ways. This approach helps students engage with the material on a deeper level and develop a greater appreciation for the power of storytelling.

Currently, our program is in Raleigh-Egypt Middle, Circles of Success Learning Academy, and Georgian Hills Elementary via ICY Arts.

Operation Read Memphis uses books to promote reading for elementary-aged students. Each month, students compete in a digital contest to earn various prizes using the platform, Epic. To date, more than 1,000 reading hours have been logged! Past incentives include in-kind donations from Main Event, Chick-Fil-A, The Children's Museum of Memphis, The Memphis Zoo, Huey's, Memphis Hustle, JH Snacks, and Shelby County Government. Through Operation Read Memphis, children also receive books donated are by black and brown authors.
