"Empowering Minds: Navigating the Pages of a Literacy Festival"

March 2023 we held our inagural Literacy Festival!






Reading with Mrs. Richardson organized a free festival that welcomed 150 students from Raleigh-Egypt Middle and Egypt Elementary. The event brought together a diverse range of participants, showcasing the collaboration and support of various organizations and individuals. Notable contributors included the National Civil Rights Museum, The Benjamin Hooks Institute at the University of Memphis, Heal the Hood, Incorporated, Africa in April, The Wolf River Conservancy, For the Kingdom, Sheriff Floyd Bonner and the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, Les Passers Kids on the Block, Literacy Mid-South, Judge Tarik Sugarmon, Shelby County Commissioner Charlie Caswell, City Councilman JB Smiley, and Hillwood Construction Services. The festival aimed to provide an enriching and inclusive experience for the students, touching on aspects of civil rights, education, community development, and more.
